AHA!

1.I got a kick out of the social learning theory ans socialization. once i read the paragraph i really got an understanding on where trends and other behaviors come from. in a way i knew how socialization works but never put it together. the social learning theory is incredibly true in which people learn from what they see on TV. the saying "monkey see monkey do" comes to mind when i hear about socialization.

2. Another AHA moment i had this quarter was learning about the movie industry. many controversies have surrounded the motion picture companies for years. one of the topics that seems to come up quite often is violence in movies. i really was shocked to see how motion pictures have be changed throughout the last hundred years.

3. The last interesting moment i had was learning about the "News". the news and media are the general populations main source of whats happening in our world. however the social media has a way of sometime "bend" the truth sometimes. thinking that the media has a way of telling us all the negative acts and putting negative spins on everything can be scary. we only know what the media tells us. if they report something bad about an individual then we the people dislike that person. the media is very powerful. do not always believe what you hear!

Controversy on the big screen

I m pretty sure we have all seen the hilarous and lol comedy "The Hangover: part II". as most agree it just might be the funniest movie of the summer, and year. raking in nearly 137 million over the first weekend, and 500 million globally, the sequel shattered records and is now the highest grossing comedy of all time! aside from the record breaking weekend, the production company for the movie is now facing some set backs. Warner bros is facing copyright-infringement allegations over Mike Tyson's famous tatto that the character "stu" mysterioulsy wakes up with in the movie. Victor Whitmill, the tattoo artist who inked the tribal pattern on Tyson's face, sued Warner Brothers last month over the movie studio's use of his tattoo design, which is copied onto actor Ed Helms' face in the film and is used on movie posters and other promotional items. My question, "Are tatoos eligible for copyright protection". However, if parties are unable to resolve the issue, "stu's" face might look a little different when the movie is released to DVD in december.

Proganda in advertisments

advertisement is propaganda.
http://www.ninjavspenguin.com/blog/tag/barack-obama/

this ad is a portrait of president barack obama. this is a very popular photo. it is seen on shirts in merchandise stores and was especially used during his rockstar campaign. since then it has become very famous.
this shirt/portrait uses many key propaganda techniques. it uses appeal to authority, euphoria, flag waving, and has a slogan. this picture of Mr. Obama is an overall patriotic one. with the red, white and blue backround to symbolize our great country and the slogan of "Progress" across the bottom had amercians cheering.

my media autobiography

We use media everyday. it has evolved so drastically that almost anyone in the world can have access to it. There are so many types, for kids, for adults all with the latest news. Media has changed the way people think and act and react.
I was raised in a decent home, with my mom and dad and have loved media ever since i can remember. i used to read many different childrens books such as the "doctor suess" books and "curious george". I aslo watched loads of TV. many childrens programs and movies. i remember one of my favorite movies was "beauty and the beast".

As i grew older i started playing sports and watching a lot more TV. i wacthed lots of games, and was an Espn junkie. Still to this day im a big sports fan. Nowadays the internet has grow huge. The internet has become a big part of my life, as for other humans as well. I use it for fun and for work; From "facebook" to homework to checking the news or weather, to researching for a term paper, the internet is the ultimate media tool. My favorite topics of media is music and radio. I believe music is a powerful thing and without it the world would be dull.

Im 19 years old and currently a college student at de anza. i plan to major in Business marketing. I believe media directly corresponds because in todays society we call it media marketing. Selling by networking. I am not set on any four year college yet but currently looking into SJSU or UCSB.

internet addiction

i am a frequent user of the internet but do not really use it for shopping, dating, or gaming. i know many poeple who are addicted to computer games or facebook. many teenagers constantly post about their lives and whats going on in the world every five minutes on the facebook. i would consider this addiction to a certain extent.  this is sad to me in way, because people get used to expressing their thoughts and feelings online, they forget how to talk to talk and socialize with people in the real world. facebook and other social network addcition can make you shy and awkward in real life.

Top books

the number one book on my list would have to be the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The Kite Runner tells the story of an afghan boy named Amir, growing up in Afghanistan who befriends Hasan, the son of his fathers servant. they are two young boys growing up in 1970's Kabul,Afghanistan. From a wealthy and peaceful lifestyle in Kabul, things would get worse. the story is set on the backdrop of tumultuous events such as goverement take over and other traumatic events that would scar Amir for the rest of his life.

the next book on my top three would be the story of Holden Caulfield in J.D Salinger's, The Catcher in the Rye. when i first read this novel back in junior year of high school, i was utterly shocked. i had never read so much swearing in a book before. after i completed the book, i had thoroughly enjoyed Holden and his weird adventures. Catcher in the rye is a story of an adolescent teenage boy who goes against the grain. with its themes of  teenage confusion, angst, alienation, language, and rebellion. Holden became the had become the icon for teenage rebellion. it is a edgy but funny book and i encourage you to read it.

last but certainly not least on my top list of books is The Great Gatsby. i really enjoyed this classic novel because it was set in New York City around the prohibition. my family is from New york so i can relate. the story is about a young bachelor by the name of nick caraway, who graduated Yale and moves to the big apple to learn the bond business. he rents a house in west egg, which is an extravagant part of Long Island, New York. his next door neighbor is a rich man named Jay Gatsby who throws big parties every Saturday night. He is suspected of being involved in illegal bootlegging and other underworld activities.

media impact

when i think of people blaming the media for real life problems i think back to the rodney king case. On the night of march 2nd, 1991 rodney glen king left a friends house in los angels with two other buddies around 12:30am. he then entered interstate highway 210 in the san fernando valley of los angeles. shortley there after two cops spotted kings car speeding. king saw the cops in the rear view but refused to pull over because he had been drinking and a DUI charge would violate his parole. therefore a highspeed chase insued but ended with officers surrounding the car. king resisted arrest so the police officers tasered him twice and beat him with their batons. after 56 six baton blows king was finally handcuffed and dragged to the side of the road awaiting an ambulance. unseen by those involved, george holiday had the entire beating recorded. he went to the police with the video tape but was dismissed. he then went to KTLA and his video was broadcast on air in its entirety. this video caused many african amercians to last out agianst the police and white poeple as well. many riots and anarchy took place in the city of LA due to this video.
